Golf Club Set - What You Need To Know
Basics Of Golf Swing Instruction'Go With Exercises The rules of golf are internationally standardised and are jointly governed by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R&A), which was founded 1754 and the United States Golf Association (USGA). By agreement with the R&A, USGA jurisdiction on the enforcement and interpretation of the rules is limited to the United States and Mexico. Canada has the separate Royal Canadian Golf Association, but generally follows the lead of the two larger bodies in the rules of golf continue to evol.Golf swing instruction starts with an understanding of the different segments of the golf swing. Understanding the golf swing ..... A 3-wood is usually the second-longest club in a golfer's bag (there are 2-woods available, but they aren't very common). Fairway woods have smaller heads than drivers and get progressively shorter than drivers. That makes them easier to control in the swing than a driver, and for that reason beginners are often encouraged to use a fairway wood off the tee rather than trying to whack a driver right out of the gate. Irons are generally categorized as long irons, mid-irons and short irons. Long irons are the 1-, 2-, 3- and 4-irons; mid-irons, the 5-, 6- and 7-irons; short irons, the 8- and 9-irons and pitching wedge. For most amateurs, the short irons are easier to hit than the mid-irons, which are easier to hit than the long irons. Without getting too technical, the reason is that as loft increases and shaft length decreases, a club becomes easier to master. Golf For Inspiration You might be tempted to ask what golf has to do with inspiration. The inspiration in golf, for me, comes from playing it. It is a microcosm of life. Sometimes you win and sometimes you ..... Utility clubs should provide the distance of a fairway wood or long iron but with a higher trajectory than what you'd get from a long iron so that the ball gets airborne, flies high and lands soft. The clubs achieve this by using the low profile and weighting of fairway woods to help get the ball in air, while avoiding the digging (divot-taking) nature of irons. In general, they are shorter in shaft length than fairway woods, providing more control. Wedges are, of course, irons. But wedges are often talked about separately, placed in their own category, because they are specialized irons. QUEENIE AND THE PETUNIAS This is story number 33 (out of 50) from my book, My Walk with the Lord, published Nov 03. Matthew 5.4 "Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted." A few weeks after Mama died ..... Putters come in a variety of head shapes and have a very low loft and often a short shaft. They are used to play the ball on the green, but may occasionally be useful for playing from bunkers or for some approach shots on courses with tightly mown fringe and fairways. Once you've identified the current state of your game and your future goals, it's time to consider how much you're willing to spend. Some golfers have unlimited budgets, and there's nothing wrong with overspending if you're in that category. But most golfers have at least some budget constraints. The good news is that the "value" or "budget" category of golf equipment continues to offer more and better choices every year. Decide how much you're willing to spend, and stick to it. |
